Now. Some of you may be looking at the HP and Attacking System and are wondering about the possible confusion that is the calculation for damage. I'mma spell it out nice and easy right here as I prepare to eat this person's seviper. Oh and uh, silly me I forgot to put it in my last post, but I'll fix it here. My Smeargle is holding a Toxic Orb (as said in my character's bio
here. A good site (that I use personally) for finding out pokemon moves is
Bulbapedia; another good one is
Serebii. Both give good information on pokemon attacks as well as pokemon as a whole. But yeah, here I go:
In this first post, I'm gonna have Smeargle use Close Combat, since my move list is pretty limited and I wanna do this without confusing you all. Close Combat does a base damage of 120 (not counting any power bonuses or anything else). As shown in the HP thread, but I'll show it again here, a good stat calculator is
here. If you have any others that's ok too. Use this here to calculate your stats which shall be used for your attacks and defenses. As I use the stat calculator, I can find out that a Lv22 Smeargle has a Max ATK of 37 when trained with the right nature. Usually just go with the max of anything really unless you really want to be technical.
So, the formula starts off like this: Take your pokemon's atk and divide by two (round to the highest number if you must).
37 / 2 = 18.5, or 19 in this case.
Next, add your calculated ATK to the base power of your move.
19 + 120 = 139. This is how much damage my pokemon is gonna do (without calculating the DEF of the opponent).
After, we calculate the stats of the opponent's pokemon assuming that they are all at max at its current Level. (because the first stat calculator site crashed on me I found another one
here which is just as good except a little more detailed)
Because Close Combat is a physical type move, we're gonna use Seviper's DEF at Lv18, which is 35.
So now we do: 139 - 35 = 104. That's the damage I'm gonna do in total to her Seviper now. Which if you look at its HP, is gonna be devestating. BUT WAIT! This is a unique situation. Fighting-types do x.50 damage to Poison-types, meaning (Generation II-onwards), meaning the attack that I have now calculated is gonna be halved.
104 / 2 = 52. That is now the total damage that my pokemon is going to do against its opponent: Seviper. Sadly, seeing Seviper's HP still be only 38, its still gonna be devestating.
Kenneth and his Splurge saw the Seviper, who's scary and intimidating sight made them wonder how this battle would go. However, Kenneth being a Gym leader would not back down to any challenge; his determined personality would too spread over his own pokemon, fueling their desire to win. Kenneth brought his right arm over his chest, steering his body so its right side faced his opponent before he lunged his arm out into the air, his palm wide open.
"Splurge! Use Close Combat!" he gave the command. Splurge let out a cry "Smeeeeaarrrgleee!". Close Combat, a move Splurge copied using Sketch a while back, was a powerful and devestating Fighting-type move. Sprluge, after letting out its cry, began to run towards its opponent the Seviper with decent speed. It did not fully attack until it came within a close distance to its foe, ultimately lowering all of its defenses so that it could launch an onslaught of fists and kicks.
Smeargle carefully watched its opponent before reaching within 5 ft of it. It leaped off the floor, gripping its paws into "fists" of sorts before releasing what was said to be a devestating onslaught of fists and kicks towards Seviper, its limbs moving in a flurry of motions almost blinding as it struck towards almost every inch of the Seviper's body with 100% accuracy. Slowly though, with the Toxic Orb attached to its body, the poisonous effects of this item would slowly start to seep into its body to affect it soon after.
